Community pharmacy minor health conditions service available

Dear whanau and community, see notice from

Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand

The Pharmacy Minor Health Conditions Service

The Minor Health Conditions Service, part of the 2023 Winter Preparedness Plan, is a new initiative that aims to help relieve pressure on general practice and hospital services in regions recognised as having consistent and persistent hospital flow challenges and wider system pressures.

The scheme covers participating pharmacies in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland), Auckland, Counties Manukau, Waitematā, Bay of Plenty, MidCentral, Wellington and Hutt Valley, Canterbury, Invercargill, Gore, and Southland and is scheduled to start Monday 12 June and will run until Saturday 30 September.

Why is this scheme important?

Proper management of minor health conditions can prevent more serious conditions from developing or prevent further costly treatment.

What is the role of pharmacists in the scheme?

Pharmacists will be able to help people more with health conditions that can be managed with advice, self-care and in some cases, medicines provided in pharmacy.

What is a minor health condition?

The following minor health conditions are included in the Minor Health Conditions Service:

  • Acute diarrhoea
  • Dehydration
  • Eye inflammation and infections
  • Scabies
  • Headlice
  • Pain and fever
  • Eczema/Dermatitis
  • Minor skin infections

Dakota of the White Flats is playing Wednesday 24 May-Thursday 25 May at Turner Centre

Tickets available with discount see info below

Dakota of the White Flats is playing Wednesday 24 May-Thursday 25 May at Turner Centre and we are so excited to be welcoming a group of your students to the show on the 25th! I'd love to offer a 15% discount to the larger Bay of Islands International Academy whānau - students and their families - for both shows.

The promo code is DAKOTAROCKS15 and this is the booking link: https://www.iticket.co.nz/events/2023/may/dakota-of-the-white-flats

Dakota of the White Flats is a high-action, pulpy, punk noir that snatches the classic coming-of-age adventure story out of the hands of a gang of boys, and passes it to two loud, unapologetic, brave young women. Created for a multigenerational audience, specifically 11-17-year-olds, this fast-paced and electrifying show celebrates the resilience, bravery and hope of young people in a changing world. Dakota is a devised theatre piece with a young cast and it's a fun, grungy, engaging and empowering experience for teens and tweens and their whānau, with lots of action, humour, movement and live music played by the cast.

Here's a bit more about the show:

Dakota of the White Flats is an adaptation of the novel by award-winning author Philip Ridley.

Dakota Pink is 13-years-old and afraid of nothing. She lives in a bleak housing complex on the edge of a polluted canal. Abandoned supermarket trolleys litter the streets and the oil slick water is filled with monstrous mutant eels. Dakota and her best friend Treacle discover a secret that propels them across the water to the Broken Glass Fortress on Dog Island. Dakota of the White Flats is a finely crafted adventure, shot through with comedy, horror, an immersive soundscape and live punk music.

Directed by Ella Becroft, with set design by John Verryt, lighting by Rachel Marlow and composition by Eden Mulholland, Dakota of the White Flats is not to be missed!

Ngā manaakitanga,

Jess

Hanna play at the turner centre

Hanna - An acclaimed one woman play Wednesday 29 March 7.30pm

Tickets $30, Free for CSC holders (at the Turner Centre Box office only)

https://www.iticket.co.nz/events/2023/mar/hanna

Jennifer Ward-Lealand directs Cassandra Woodhouse in the acclaimed one woman play, Hanna, by Sam Potter.

Being a young mum is supposed to be hard - but for Hanna, the only thing she's ever been brilliant at is raising her beloved daughter, Ellie.  But then a DNA test reveals staggering news: Ellie is not Hanna’s child - and now her ‘real’ parents want to meet.

Is Hanna obliged to let these strangers into her daughter's life? And how do you explain a mix-up in an overstretched maternity ward to a three-year old? Forced to question what being a parent really means, she makes a drastic decision that will change all their lives.

Sam Potter's funny, heartfelt and compelling one-woman play, Hanna delicately weaves in questions of racial identity, economic privilege, and the lottery of birth - and asks: what does  “family” actually mean in today's society?

Premiering in London in 2018, and proudly presented by NZ Theatre Company in its Auckland premiere, Hanna will be the first for the company, whose aim is to bring professional productions into community theatre spaces.

'Gripping… a memorable and moving look at nature and nurture and what family really means' - The Times
