About Our School

The Bay of Islands International Academy provides an environment where natural curiosity and imagination lead to exploration, play and discovery for learners of all ages. We are a public school catering to children from Years 1 to 8 and we offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) primary years programme, the only IB school north of Auckland.

Our school is located on the Purerua Peninsula, 15 minutes northeast of Kerikeri with a bus service running from the centre of town. With a normal roll of around 110 children our teachers and staff combine a supportive, family and whānau feel with a modern and engaging approach to learning.

We honour the historical linkages and the place of the local hapu Ngāti Rehia and Ngāti Torehina. We honour each child as unique and seek to build personal growth and confidence, natural curiosity and both cultural and global competencies. We believe that authentic inquiry learning results in positive action, both in and outside of school.

Our Values - Ko Wai Au - Who I am?

Our values are based around the Learner Profile, a foundation of the International Baccalaureate curriculum. These are reinforced with children every day with a view to developing the attributes of global citizenship.
