2019 Swimming Sports

Last week we enjoyed the last of the summer swimming programme with both our own school sports and the Kerikeri inter-schools competition run in the same week.

Many students put their names forward to compete in our school event, and with the generous help of our parents we were able to get all the children down to Kawakawa pool. The opportunity to compete and build confidence in the same pool as the inter-school competition was a bonus.

We want to acknowledge all the following students for their participation and performances on the day across freestyle, breast stroke and back stroke. In the girls Aimee, Chilli, Taungarangi, Kaia, Kia, Eva, Shanae, Keira and Hannah-May all took. placings. In the boys Mikaera, Te Awa, Reef, Tyron and Bosco were the place getters.

To the inter-schools competition Bay Academy swimmers performed with distinction. Kaia Derbyshire took out 1st place in all 3 categories of freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. Mikaera Porter took out firsts in the breast and back stroke and a second in freestyle. Other swimmers to perform well and gain placings in their events were Eva Wyman, Aimee Croucher, and Bosco and Amalfi. Thanks again go the the parents who assisted teacher Sam Roessler to give the students this great opportunity.
